Had an interview at a hotel front desk role and they asked how I’d handle rude guests but didn’t talk much about training. Is that a red flag or normal for hospitality interviews?

If the pay is good enough, there's not a level of rudeness too big to be dealt with lol. If they get too crazy you just stop talking and smile 😃

Hahaha yes I love this vibe 😂

If you can’t appease them, then leave that to the manager

That’s true but you need to be able to manage yourself in many roles in hospitality

Service with a smile works every time and the customer is always right

No the customer is not always right. 30+ years in hospitality.

It’s pretty normal, I’d say. It could’ve been that a previous employee handled a situation badly and that they wanted to be sure that the incoming employees are well versed in handling difficult customers

Yah I guess so! Thank you

No it’s not a red flag, they just want to know your opinion on how you would handle the situation. But remember some of the questions they ask is part of training

That’s true

On the hospitality industry is a common question, we want to know how would you handle a situation with unhappy guests. No matter how good is the company providing excellent or top notch services, you will always have one guest who is not happy.

However not always unfortunate as I get better at dealing with miserable customers, good skill to have

No this is not uncommon. Think or tell of a time when a customer was rude to you- talk about how you dealt with it, and switched the situation around and was able to make the guest satisfied with his/her experience- obviously have a fake example if you don’t have a real one.

I hate that question too.it keeps me awake at night trying to figure out what to say!!
