Has anyone applied for an architectural designer position where the company asks for a portfolio under 10MB? I'm currently facing this issue, where I can only include three or four projects to keep the file size within the limit, but the resolution suffers. For larger projects, especially with detailed floor plans, a high resolution is necessary to show everything clearly, but that ends up creating a much larger file

I would try to review the graphical content and be conscious about what you are trying to show for a project.
One more thing that I recommend to go through is the hygiene of your vector files. Sometimes the quantity of lines and other vector information significantly bloats the file size, so in these cases maybe you want to consider rasterizing them to a higher quality jpg.
Hope it helps!

I’ve spent 8 years in architecture and every round of job applications I’ve learnt new tricks to reduce the pdf size while maintaining the pdf as a vector and not rasterizing it. There are many ways or methods you could be doing or using wrong for me to help you figure out how to reduce your portfolio size. But let me start with the most major thing you might be doing wrong (probably aren’t) which is using any other software except indesign to make your portfolio. Next comes the types of “links” in your indesign and then fix your output settings on your export window. With the right settings I always have a portfolio that is lesser than 10mb and a further smaller version lesser than 5mb while maintaining decent quality. My portfolio is actually considerably long and has 10 projects on a minimum and 60 pages. I can share exact details without rambling on here if you’d like to connect.

I’m 27 & going to go to back to college for my bachelors. I have worked in the legal field for about 8 years & I’m burnt out. After a lot of research an thought I am leaning towards either architecture or interior design. I wanted to ask some advice from anyone working as an architect or interior designer. How do you feel about the field? What are the stress levels like? Do you enjoy it? Are you working at firm or are you working independently? Any info helps! Thanks 😊

I’m curious to know if anyone has experience working part-time in architecture? I have been working for large international firms in NYC for the past 10 years. So I work all day every day. My evenings and often the weekends are all absorbed by work duties. Working part-time would allow me to find a better balance, and carve out space for side gigs and eventually start my own firm. Any recommendations?

Curious to know what other avenues people have taken in our industry to make more money. Currently getting OT which is nice since most places don’t offer that benefit but still doesn’t feel like it’s worth the long nights when the paycheck comes in.

Hi everyone, I’m an architectural designer (from Europe) with 1.5 yrs experience. I’m working for a practice in San Francisco, full-time from the office, getting 25 an hour. It is so expensive to live here, I am struggling to make things work. Is this a normal salary for someone of my experience or should I ask for a raise? I don’t want to be greedy but it’s so expensive out here… Thank you 🌈
