Has anyone else noticed how vague some tech job descriptions are becoming? I’ll read an entire posting and still not fully understand what the actual day to day responsibilities would be. Makes it hard to know whether I’m underqualified or if companies are just throwing together buzzwords.

They are being vague on purpose. I once worked for a company that would hire people for one role and keep them in on-boarding/training for up to six months before letting people know what their actual jobs were.

Classic bait and switch tactics. Sounds like a shady company to me.

Agreed! And then they list 20 different technologies that you need to have experience which only adds to the confusion.

I recently interviewed with a lead engineer on the team I would be joining for a role that said Tecton experience was required. I was shocked when after I brought up my Tecton experience the lead engineer said that he had never heard of Tecton.

How is it a required skill for the role when the lead engineer has never heard of it?!? lol

I have come to find that companies are looking for unicorns. My specialty is ERP and CRM platform administration and there are many solutions in that space. I can learn and automate pretty much anything but might not have the required 5 years experience with HubSpot or Service Now.

Job titles are nonsense these days. "Customer Support" could be anything from resolving system outages to a straight-up sales role. I interviewed for a Technical Writer job where what they actually wanted was a System Architect.

Career advice?

I'm a relatively junior data engineer (2yoe), the only other engineer (senior) that trained me left about a 6 months ago and I negotiated a nice raise for the extra responsibilities.

My performance reviews have been stellar, but my manager is starting to look to hire a senior to help me deliver projects as we do lack capacity right now.

I feel like I might be missing an opportunity to ask for a promotion and hire a junior instead.

Any opinions/tips?

Does anyone at Atlassian (or who knows someone at Atlassian) have news on the hiring slowdown? Any updates on which business units / orgs / positions the company will continue hiring for? Or if it is actually going to be a hiring *freeze*? I did a final round interview with Atlassian that went well and I'm hoping to hear back soon...

Please, I need your opinion on this. I have 6 years of experience as a software developer and just finished my masters degree in data science. Now I am looking for a job here in the US. I went through the hiring process with this company and finally got an offer. They offered 88k/year and I responded opening a negotiation. They emailed me back saying that I am no longer in this process anymore with no further explanation and in Thanksgiving day. Is that normal?that email really got me very upset

Hello, I'm hearing product management is the space to be if you want to see a considerable bump in pay. What is the path forward to reach that role? Considering a Product Owner role. Any best practices of what questions to ask during an interview? First phase deals with a virtual Teams interview with the recruiter and her manager on Tuesday. Excited since this is a hop from a Product Analyst role and entails an offer of over $30,000 from what I'm getting now! This would be a permanent full-time compared to my current contractor role that ends in March.

I got a call from the Google recruiter about my L7 em interview Google She said I did overwhelmingly good on all interviews except one had mixed feedback on a system design. No surprise because it was not a good interview. The recruiter said i had a choice to go to hiring committee, give referrals they could call about my system design or take another system design interview. I’m not confident about the system design because of the bad experience I had with the previous interviewer. What should I do?
