Has anyone ever been down levelled at the offer stage? Like applied for a Principal Engineer but for Senior Engineer in a good software product company.

Experience 8.5 Years - Usually in Principal Band (8-12) as per the company but that product company put me in Senior Band where the Work ex range is 5-8 yrs.

Won't the down levelled tag already put the person at a disadvantage when he starts at the company?

Feel that downlevelled tag will be used to judge me in times of appraisal etc.
