I've had some success with freelancing through UpWork. There are often people needing technical expertise on there. You may have to bid a little low on your first few jobs to build a reputation.
I think in a different job market this would be a possible move with some certifications and/or freelance experience. But this market is so bad for entry level and/or career pivots that I just don't know if I would recommend it right now.

I’ve worked for a larger corporate company where moving between industries was easier. Then once you get the experience you could branch out to another company.
Freelancing helped me get experience to move. It comes with some downsides for sure, having to bid or probably get paid not much when first starting. No benefits, no guarantees, etc. But it’s worth looking at if you find joining another company to be difficult.
Thank you. I may look at reaching out to those at my current work for some kind of secondment in that area and get a feel for it with the intentions to possibly move to that area if i do enjoy it when a place opens up. But ill look other options such as fiver etc
