Having worked with energy now for a decade, I find myself enjoying the craziness of it all: You're always two decisions (in Moscow or Riyadh) away from prices halving or doubling. War or no war is quite often a sensitivity, and adoption of EVs/renewables/biofuels will be between X and 10X. Find it hard to imagine doing strategy work in the less volatile/crazy domains - what could be more exciting than this 😋

Gotta admit, kinda fell into the energy game (power sector) ass backwards as a field engineer. 10 years later, after a stint in consulting and now with emerging tech research, I cannot be happier that I’m operating in this industry at this time. And luckily found a chance to carve out my niche in a hotly growing area. OP, I feel you. Excited to contribute to such an impactful transition, quite possibly the most significant of our generation (ok ok, stepping off my soapbox)

For my latest role (energy research), I was still able to get a roughly 15% raise from my consulting role (manager). But my level of responsibility went up quite a bit too.

Which firm do you work at?

Well, not really local, major energy hubs across the globe. Most travel is for meetings, weeks and months at client's offices is less common.

I am interviewing for director/group PM roles (10 years product management exp) and I was asked as a second round to go through a “product sense” interview, conducted by a junior PM reading the script. I know product sense is needed as PM (i have recruited many PMs in my life) but it felt quite underwhelming to go through an hour of this … the PM was very nice, but couldn’t answer any complicated question either … is this still the norm for senior processes, is it FAANG legacy or just bad luck?
