Hello all. Happy Holidays. I want to ask anyone on here are self employed? How did you create your business and start? I’m seriously wanting to do for my family more and not do for a corporation like I have been. After seeing all that’s happening and how those don’t care about the ones doing the actual work.

1. Figure out what you really want to do that will not make you hate the business down the line

2. Ensure you have financial runway for a few months/year if you decide to quit your job when you decide to go into the business full-time

3. Decide what’s essential for your business to succeed initially & what’s not, ie where you’ll be investing time/resources (some people will tell you not having business cards or a website makes you look unprofessional… a lot of entrepreneurs will tell you NO ONE cares about business cards and there are businesses that function without a website)

4. Figure out the best-for-you ways to build your pipeline of customers (marketing/sales strategy; it can be social media; it can be word of mouth, etc.)

Entrepreneurship feels/sounds daunting, but it’s all possible, and I applaud you for thinking about making a difference in your life, your family’s life, and saying “no” to the corporate dysfunction.

No 1 above might be the toughest thing to do; one of my clients spent almost a year trying to figure out what she really wanted to do after 8 weeks of coaching, but she got it and is happy now with her chosen path.

Fishes, Basically, I’m a front-end developer. I have work with most of the front-end technologies and frameworks. I want to learn back-end to get rid of the dependency from the other person who work with the the back-end for the common tasks.

Anyone else notice how ever since that research came out that said performance reviews are BS, HRs everywhere have been saying “We don’t do a traditional performance review.”

Learned on the day of the deadline to enroll, that my partner's employer offers voluntary participation on a deferred compensation plan. First time I hear of such a benefit/option after working for years!
