Not personally but have seen non-target mbas continue their current roles.
You really have everything to gain from on-campus recruiting (internship, sign on bonuses, retention bonuses)

That’s a lot of money and time to gamble on a risk that you haven’t even explored yet. Did you consider asking the powers that be before you put down the coin?
My salary on a ‘C’ level is already 130k and I have a scholarship to pretty much pay for the entire MBA. I didn’t feel like the 260k loss in income was worth the full time, but I wanted to establish my career in consulting. I have a fairly weak background (community college, low ranked school…etc) and I didn’t want that ever to be a black mark against me.
Likely not going to happen. You’ll have to leave the firm to get your pay bump. Have you looked at firm sponsorship for mba?
The point here isn’t getting it covered, but getting your MBA recognized. Unless you were a Strat scholar, we don’t acknowledge your personal choice. If you didn’t come out with an offer, you’ve established your market value to be what we’re paying you already at best.
From my time in consulting that’s just not how it pans out but YMMV. Ultimately when you leave with or without a tuition assistance program, they will not necessarily break the bank to make you whole unless there is a merit case. Yes, if you for example leave entirely and then choose to go back, then by virtue of aligning all campus hire pays, you might get the post mba package.
Now as for doing an MBA within your time as a consultant won’t automatically guarantee you a bump unless you’re able to fast track your promotion and maybe get made whole by entering a new pay band. That’s one way to approach it.
We don’t do that. If you’re in Strat, you get the salary when you make that level. MC doesn’t pay that way bc it’s by level and city.
You should look for a FT offer from any firm. If you get an adjustment, it’ll stop growing and you’ll just be flat.
I think you’re more likely to get laughed at, unfortunately.
You’re a current employee, so you can follow the current transfer process of networking, showing your value, and aligning. If you’re at a target school it may help, but pay levels are set. You won’t get the ASCDP bonuses or SC title, bc that’s only for campus hires into ASCDP (transfers are just the C-level).
We’re desperate for talent though, so if you’re PT and working, you should start networking to get on a Strat project and get pulled over. What group would you target?
