Ok be honest, candidates. I really love this set of questions, I’ve been considering shifting my current interview style to these questions - I think they really give you an idea of who this person would be within the work setting. But the questions almost feel too deep for a recruiter to ask. What would you think if a recruiter took a different path and asked these questions instead of the usual ones? https://blog.shrm.org/blog/9-interesting-interview-questions-that-actually-reveal-a-lot-about-candidat
Confession, I want to talk to bowl leader

Benched resources = a cost to the company Client billable projects = making the company money Leaders will not bluntly say it - but revenue targets were missed due to Covid. This will continue to have an impact later in the year as well, as its a new fiscal year and clients don’t have the same spend budget. This is not the time to be picky or turn your face at any client billable engagement/role that the firm deems necessary. You are a cost if you’re not busy. Cost cutting = you can be in that category Want job security? Do what they ask.
I personally know people in this situation and while it’s not great, they vastly prefer it to being on the bench and running a risk of being cut. Also shifts in workweek is totally normal for many professions. It may not be common for consulting but i think it’s not unreasonable to ask for.
How are people on the bench if they’re 100% utilized?
They were above 100% so far and had a few days on the bench? Not sure how accenture measures utilization, for us 100=40 hours/week every week.
What kinda customer service?
How can you be both 100% utilized and on bench? Those are mutually exclusive.
Yes and you can be above 100 (let’s say 120) and a week on the bench will bring you to 113 let’s say...
Rising Star
I assume you’re talking about the call centers.
Yes, sorry I don’t work there so I can’t speak to it the exact responsibilities
I'll take my salary doing customer service work. Lol
I agree, we are very fortunate
You are welcome to roll off this call center project if you have something else lined up btw
100% agree with what PWC1 said. I’ve been on the calls where leadership is asking this and they understand that people don’t want these jobs. But, at the end of the day- it’s better to have a job than not have one at all :(
This is common across different firms and has been going on for months
I was at Accenture during the last recession she. It recovered I left. Nothing like being told your an asset not a person to make you realize life was more than utilization.
I agree SC1 and OP. It’s unfortunate but the reality is that this is common across all major corporations. We are replaceable and an employee ID to the “powers the be”. Ie firm leadership. Get the experience and name on your resume, and do what’s best for you. In this situation, the work is crappy but at least it’ll prolong a potential layoff while you can look for something better
SM1 no it’s not. It’s to staff call centers for the unemployed. Accenture is losing money on it but it’s better than having 3000 ppl on the bench
I get the ‘do as your told’ concept except for taking weekends away from people. Don’t really think that’s a fair way to treat any employee. Whenever the tailwinds of this are over, you’re guaranteed to have left a sour taste in a very productive resource and they will leave. My friend has been on the bench a total of if 5 weeks in 5 YEARS.
I hear you, but past utilization doesn’t carry forward to future earnings. I’d just be happy my employer is finding creative ways to make me a financial asset and not a liability.
So your friend was 0% utilized after PTO and was staffed on a project that is not M-F. Oh the humanity... I think they should just be happy they are employed..
S2, I don’t WORK there. I work with you!
What are they actually doing? Taking customer troubleshooting calls?
I bet this is post go-live checkout or Hypercare
