Good lord. I've been here ten years. Take the vacation and be all in when you're actually there. PwC did not have massive layoffs this year - we hit, as a firm, our targets. Which tells you resourcing plan and revenue plan were aligned. Did they push out some lower performers and some people in particular areas that were overweight? Of course, like every firm every year. Yes, there is an increased focus on metrics and profitability coming from the top - but you should still take vacation.
I've taken my vacation, and gotten 1s and 2s (along with raises, bonuses and promotions),
I've not taken my vacation, and ended up with 3s (even though I had above 100% utilization).
I know people that have made it to Director in 8 years, and they have taken their vacations year after year.
If you're in a situation where your utilization would materially impact your rating tier, that is a problem that not taking your vacation is not going to solve.
If you're relying solely on your utilization alone to carry you through a CRT, you don't know how the game is played.
Someone that meets their minimum utilization target and is doing all of the other things that the firm asks you to do is more likely to get a 1 than someone that crushes their utilization target, but only does that.
Hell no. Take your vacation utilization be damned to hell. Live your life, you won't regret taking time to go somewhere when you're old and dying
If you guys calculate utilization the same way we do, vacation hours taken in lieu of client service reduces your utilization.
Y'all are idiots. Take PTO. It's part of your compensation.
You ain't getting a 1 anyway, so take your PTO
At EY vacation hours don't hurt your effective utilization 😊
^DD1 is correct
Pdubs had some nasty layoffs this year D1, taking vacation both reduces utilization and deducts from the potential vacation payout if it happens again. Sucky spot OP
Shit this thread sucks
DD1, correct, charging vacation instead of client hours does hurt your utilization - but taking vacation while on the beach, once you've charged 40 hours for the week, etc. does not hurt your utilization.
^ I am 👍🏼
S&1, if on the beach sure, because you aren't billable. If you've already charged your hours for the week why would you use PTO? If I got my 45 in three days I'll be damned if I'd take the next two as PTO
@p4 - keep drinking that Kool aid.
On my projects, we aren't allowed to bill over 40 hours a week. So any missed billable time (vacation) will decrease your utilization. I've gone two years once without taking vacation and it's not worth it. Take vacation, keep your network strong, and realize they are looking for anything not to give bonuses, but if you are a high performer you won't get fired.
On a 4 week vacation right now.
Target utilization factors in vacation, holiday, potential sick time etc which is why targets are not 100%. TAKE THE TIME OFF! No one is ever penalized for taking vacation. If you are one of the unfortunate ones to have been let go because of low utilization, it wasn't vacation that got you to that point.
Lol 😂 ok 👌. Charge 8 hours vaca or charge 8 hours client code. Then tell me which results in higher utilization. 🤡
DD1 it doesn't reduce utilization, it's treated the exact same way at G&A. Booking 8 hrs at your client and 2 hours of G&A doesn't REDUCE your utilization.
S1 - you made that more confusing than it needed to be
