Hello! I want to know your opinion. I am a senior accountant for a company. I will be with them for 5 years in January 2026. I have one person reporting to me. I have 3 degrees, 20 years of experience, no disciplinary issues, and collaborate with multiple departments everyday. The Senior VP refuses to promote me to Manager. His complaint is that I do not communicate well. I asked department contacts about my communication style, and was received praise. Do you think it's time for me to move on?

You should look elsewhere for a promotion, at the very least, dip your toes in the water and see what is out there. If they were a proper boss and invested in you and your career, they would coach you on communication style if that really was the issue. It's more likely that they like what you do in your current role, and don't want to lose you. 5 years is long enough for a promote to manager. Good luck.

I agree with everything you said except the 5 years for promotion. Industry promos are very different than public accounting, in PA there is a pipeline that must be kept going so promos happen on a regular schedule. In Industry promos can only happen if there is an open role and usually a lot more than 5 yrs is standard for a manager role.

My in-laws used to own a jewelry store, and they had this Omega quartz watch in their storage. I can understand why this wasn’t sold during their clearance sale lol. I had no idea Omega made stuff like this in 1987! I guess they couldn’t help it after the rise of quartz watches in the 70s to 80s. I doubt they’re worth anything even to this day. I see them on eBay for $700-1200, so who knows…
