Believe me, I've seen some women have terrible luck with tips due to the poor service they provide. It can happen to anyone who isn't good at the job, male or female
I wouldn't worry about this too much. From my previous experience, you'll receive plenty of tips as long as you're good at what you do
I’ve seen men make tons of money in fine dining!
Male waiter here. I can confirm, I do pretty well on tips just by trying to be funny and giving memorable service
It's true that it's common for women to make more tips than men. However, that doesn't mean men can't do extremely well.
I think it all depends on your attitude and dedication. I'm a woman and I've had male coworkers who earn much more in tips for making customers laugh.
It might actually surprise you. My friend started working at a restaurant and thought he wouldn't get tips because he's (not being rude, just honest) not the best looking guy out there, but he's gotten some sizable tips and a few phone numbers. He's one of those guys that makes you instantly feel comfortable with him, like old buddies.
You just gotta leverage what you got. I'm not the best looking guy out there but I try to be funny and personable and that tends to work out pretty well for me. Find your angle and work it
You would do fine as long as you performed the job well. My experience at least. If you make people wait longer than they should then they won't tip you no matter how attractive they think you are. Case in point: I work with this one gal who has gotten everywhere by her looks (really gorgeous but almost zero personality). She gets some tips but not many because she's awful at her job. I think she might be "encouraged to leave" or fired soon, people keep complaining and I'm just standing back watching it happen
That’s all in your head. Or you’re in the wrong restaurant. My coworkers make and female all bring in 20% or more on every check.
