Help!!! I feel like I'm losing my passion or desire for teaching. I wanted to be a teacher ever since I was in high school, and I don't know how to be anything else. I've been a teacher in one form or another for 22 years, how do I get my love for the job back? I'm worried it isn't possible. I don't want to turn into one of those old, miserable teachers that all the kids hate.

So my career (now year 36) has undergone a number of changes and reinventions. I am on district #4, so that’s a natural restart. At least 3 different times my job within the district underwent significant changes. And while this may not be optimum, maybe pursue a different district or a different job within your present one. But a couple of changes over the years were ones I did within my classroom. I rearranged everything - seating, my desk, my routines. And I tried to find something new to teach every year - a new unit, a new concept, a new routine for students. One year I changed my attire. Break up the routine and try something fresh. The biggest pitfall here is not giving the newness a chance before giving up on it. My final two thoughts: first, you are not alone. And second, make sure you take care of yourself!

I feel that the schools keep demanding more from us educators which takes away the joy. We can only do so much in having in getting them to understand. It is tuff when they come to you 3 and 4 grades behind. I just take care of myself, and always do the best that I can. I run into a formal student every now and then and they always tell me that I made an impact. Keep doing what I do.

I honestly don't have any good advice beyond, take care of yourself whatever that means to you. Take a few days off during the week. Go out to eat. Stay in and do nothing. Whatever you do make sure it fills you with joy and has nothing to do with school. I think, with enough TLC you'll get back your joy. I hope you have a wonderful rest of your weekend and year 🥰🥰🥰

I like those ideas. People say cursive is archaic and pointless now days, but so many primary texts were written in cursive that being able to read cursive is essential for being able to interact with some of the most important documents in our history.

Do something else for a couple years. At 22 years you should be vested for a pension. I lost a position and was out for two years, it made me appreciate the job far more doing other things. I am happier doing my side hustle now but it rekindled my purpose and appreciation for a stable job.
