Here are my hot takes on common workplace norms:

1. Meetings are overrated. Most could be emails, let’s save time!
2. Work-life balance shouldn't be a buzzword. It should be a given. We deserve it!
3. Open offices are a distraction. Who thought this was a good idea?

Open offices are cheaper so people who pay for them like them. I think everyone who has to be in one hates them.

I worked in one once, and there was just so much noise. It was so loud!

1. Totally agree on meetings—half the time it’s just updates that could’ve been a group message.
2. Work-life balance isn’t a perk, it’s basic respect. No one should feel guilty for logging off on time.
3. Open offices? Just noise, no focus. Whoever pitched that never needed deep work.

'No one should feel guilty for logging off on time', absolutely! It should never be allowed to become like that!

I grew up with a lot of social anxiety so I can't really believe I'm saying this, but my favorite thing about working at a store is that I have to talk to people every day. It's really helped me come "out of my shell" and stepping outside of my comfort zone has given me more confidence than I ever thought it would.

While joining, the company says.. Congratulations, here is your offer letter. Kindly confirm your acceptance over email. As the last step you have to sign the OL "on the date of your joining."

Why does getting let go feel like dying? I was so angry earlier at having gotten the news about being let go after 2 years and now it feels like I’m being crushed from the inside out.

I am mainly working with shops in the States as a non-native speaker and I am constantly worried about my ability to communicate (in any professional occasion but mostly in meetings). I am working with some of the best shops and this makes the situation worse considering that I am largely surrounded by an extremely competent group of folks that are super good at any form of communication. How do you feel as a native speaker when you meet non-natives? Should they be worried, or, they doing ok?
