Hey everyone! Casual question: What's a product you witnessed the birth or origins of, didn't think much of, and didn't expect to have much growth, but actually had an unbelievable impact on people and saw a lot of growth? I'm trying to study different products and their trajectories, so your responses would really help me go down my research rabbit hole.

Haha, this one made me think, but honestly, my answer has to be Crocs. I remember when they first came out, just these weird, rubbery clogs that looked kind of goofy and honestly seemed like a passing fad. I never would’ve guessed they’d blow up the way they did. But over time, Crocs caught on with everyone from nurses and chefs to kids and even celebrities, and now they’re everywhere.

On - considering the establishment of the core sports shoe brands, it’s unbelievable that this Swiss came seemingly out of nowhere, especially considering that their use of major brand ambassadors is fairly limited compared to traditional brands.

MyFitnessPal way back in the day. I saw it referenced on reddit or some gym forum, downloaded it and started using it daily. I thought it was a great product, I just didn't think it'd have much widespread appeal. Then it started blowing up, got bought out by Under Armour if I remember correctly and now has a huge userbase.

One example that comes to mind is Slack. When it first launched, many didn’t see it as more than just another chat tool, and people questioned whether it would last in a crowded space. Fast forward to today, and it’s transformed how teams communicate and collaborate, especially in remote work settings. It’s a great case study in how products can evolve based on user needs. What about you? Any specific products you’re looking into?

Poppi, post-it notes, tiktok, crumbl cookies, disc-less video games, the re-emergence of records, and cash app to name a few.

I just got an offer from a company that I have mixed feelings about. Team seems great but Glassdoor reviews, not so much. I’m currently interviewing with a couple of other companies that are amazing and would be my too choices. However, I’m very early in the process so it will probably take a month or so to get to the offer stage with them. I don’t want to fall between two chairs for not taking this offer and then not getting any from other companies. What should I do? Best strategy?

I'm two thirds through the PMA Core Certification, and the info is great but the tests are a joke. They need to contract with an educator that specializes in testing and assessment to come in and develop exams that actually measure if you know the material. The bad test design devalues the certification. Not to zero, but I definitely will not be proud to have earned it. It just means I had $1300 and sat through 15 hours of video lectures.

any insight into how a pmm skillset is different from a brand strategist one? of course the pmm applies insights to and influences the product, but it seems like a lot of the core elements - research, understanding the user, generating insights, developing messaging and angles to speak to them, etc are super similar. interested in transitioning and I want to understand where my gaps are!

Should I take this role?
Pros: 50k bump, company is full remote, no time tracking software, unlimited PTO, 10k in quarterly bonuses, vertical move in responsibility and title, will set me up for future roles in different companies with the title I am looking for (so strategic move)

Cons: Its a startup, the solution they offer is adjacent to my desired industry, its a very small team so I wouldn’t grow my network as much, tech stipend for new laptop (but they don’t provide a work one)
