Tijuana??
Honestly, it’s hard to live in San Diego even making six figures.
Goodness. Very lucky. We’re struggling now, and gonna make a decision to stay or not in the next two years. Salary increases aren’t keeping up.
La Jolla is expensive. You're going to be hard-pressed finding anything less than 2k there. San Diego generally has very poor public transportation, so a car is more of a necessity than a luxury (I live 10 minutes from work by car, but public transport would take me 1+ hours, although biking is an option and would be much faster). They did build the trolley line to utc from downtown, so you might be able to find something further out, but it will still not be cheap.
Under $1k rent come on man have to be more cognizant of looking at even just Zillow
For 1K you need roommates. Without a car, you need to be on the blue line trolley if you can’t find a grad student roommate in UTC area. For cheapest situation, you would wanna live south of downtown and you’d have an hour plus commute.
San Diego is unfortunately one of the most expensive places in the country. You should go on Roomster and get some leads from there
Look for a roomate. Then you can probably buy an ebike. One thing that SD has is good bike lines. It will be probably hard to commute from one side to the other but you can use an ebike on one location and then take the bus to another.
Get a few roommates and you can live in home in Clairmont, neat Gennesse (for a quick straight bus route) for about that in rent (I.e. 4 bed homes are available for about 4 - 4.5k/mo.). Otherwise, if you can work remote, go far away, maybe another state w lower cost of living and take an SD wage and live lavishly 😉
We live in Carmel Valley, so pretty close to La Jolla. My husband works in UTC (close to UCSD) and has a very easy commute. There are no buses around where we live, and I second what SE 1 said here. Maybe get a bike and I’d suggest looking for places just south of LJ - maybe Bird Rock(?), PB. Or east of UTC - Poway, Mira Mesa, Clairemont(?) … But yeah, you will probably need a car. Best wishes for an easy move.
Go to Roomies.com get a roommate and save for your pad as you progress in your career
You need a car and roommates
La jolla is expensive
Just to give you more info.
I’m a recent graduate and I’m in an entry level job. Not yet makin 6 figures lol.
But I appreciate all your comments, and suggestions.
Anywhere near the trolley on the blue line is your best bet. If you can get a good deal in Little Italy it may be worth it
I agree with you
