McKinsey & Company Any advice to help prepare for data science analyst role at top consulting firms (McKinsey & Company EY Boston Consulting Group etc)? Any materials, open source platform recommended to take on freelance data science project? When should I start actively looking and applying? I am a new grad who is working in tech as a marketing analyst I’m looking to pivot to marketing& sales data science consulting next year. Would like someone with similar backgrounds offer some practical tips.
For a mouse anyways, this has been a godsend. It takes a little getting used to, but I have had no wrist pain since.

I used this mouse since Covid. Can't say enough good things about it. It's a game-changer.
I bought wrist braces and wore them for awhile - at home, on the computer, sleeping - and it really helped relive my symptoms. It was especially helpful sleeping since I curl my hands in my sheets. It took awhile to get used to doing normal things and work tasks with braces, but it helped in the long run.
I also used meetings as an opportunity to give myself a break from typing and focus on hand exercises while still participating.
When it got really bad I relied on voice commands which had the dual benefit of making me realize how bad voice activation is for most apps and websites so now I champion that in my job and run a quarterly lunch and learn about it.
All that said, go to your doctor. They can give you an official diagnosis and recommendations. Good luck!
Try gua sha
^^This or accupuncture
Talk to your Manager and HR business partner and get some sort of medical accommodation in place and/or take some medical leave to give your hands a rest. You'll need to get a medical diagnosis, so go see your PCP asap.
Assuming you are benefited and not a contractor, they cannot deny or fire you for asking (and if they do, you can get litigious).
1. Learn to use a mouse with your non-dominate hand and switch between them every two weeks
2. Explore the dictation options in each program you use. If they're good then you're off to the races. If the dictation is not good then work with the accommodation services at your company to get a voice control software.
3. Get an appointment with an orthopedist to explore carpal tunnel surgery, it's not fun, but it's a life changer.
Thank you all ❤️
I use to work for a hand and wrist specialist. the sooner you get this taken care of the better. I would recommend going to see a hand/wrist specialist. There are different treatments that don’t all end in surgery. Sometimes all you need is a wrist brace and to wear it for a while. They also offer shots that relieve the tension, and or surgery. The surgery is quick, but the recovery usually takes about a month including therapy.
Definitely talk to HR and see what accommodations they are willing to give you depending on what the hand and wrist specialist tells you.
Try some light Yoga, there are number of exercises for your fingers and hand
Voice commands to substitute typing for some stuff
I was in your situation and learned to use the mouse with the other hand - that and good wrist pads did the trick!
Wearing double wrist braces with a metal insert at night for 6 months fixed mine. I also still wear a wrist compression sleeve (with no metal) on my right hand while working. I have been carpal tunnel free for over a year
Thanks for all your responses ❤️❤️❤️
