I moved here from NY a few years ago, congrats on the leap! First thing to consider is where you’re working. You don’t want the long commute. There are a few options depending on where you work... if you’re west side, Venice/ Santa Monica are centers of gravity but pricey. I live in Mar Vista which is quiet but cheap and close to everything (with a car). Palms is similar, but closer to Culver City; which is the up-and-coming creative hub. Some people like Marina del Rey or Playa Vista, i don’t, they give off Truman show vibes. If you’re east-side, Silverlake is more money, the neighborhoods surrounding it are worth looking at. That whole area is the hot place to be, unfortunately my office has been too far from there. Or in DTLA, there’s Arts District. You have a ton on options but base your decision off of price and distance to work. Also, your interests.. are you into the beach, hiking, shows, etc.? Happy to answer any other Qs.
Thanks so much for the response! I don’t have a job lined up yet so I could be anywhere, but most of the agencies I’m looking into are westside. I love the beach and surfing, so I was looking into Hermosa, Manhattan or possibly El Segundo. Not sure if those are reasonable options for working in that area or not.
Inglewood. No joke.
I’ll check it out, thanks!
Inglewood is on the rise!
Inglewood is sounding like a winner here!
Manhattan/Hermosa/El Segundo are great places to live depending on where you work. Traffic here sucks the life out of you so I would recommend picking the best most area in your price range after you figure out where you’re going to work. Inglewood is on the more affordable side but depending on the area safety is a concern.
Live close to where you work. Then you’ll be happy
If you can afford it move to Santa Monica. Live that beach life. If you can’t, move to West LA. If you want much cheaper, suburbia, and probably an hour long commute to the West Side (unless you work in the Valley) look at Sherman Oaks, Encino, and Studio City.
Good luck and welcome!
Just moved here as well and I second Mar Vista. Close to most major agencies and relatively inexpensive. Also being able to walk to the beach is pretty nice 🌴🌞
I’ll check it out, thanks so much!
Live near your job. Wasting time on driving everyday sux and its $$$ too. At least if u have the subway nearby u can sleep on the train. Traffic is in LA what snow is in the East Coast...
All that matters is that you live close to where you work Unless you’re just dying to spend half your life in your car
If you've got kids traffic isn't that bad. Alone time with podcasts or music. 😎
