Mid level Electrical Engineer in the greater Baltimore, MD area making $115k base w/ $20k sign on bonus. No yearly bonus. I started this job in April of this year. 2-3 years experience. When I onboarded they told me to expect promotion to EE III in about a year. Performance reviews coming at the end of the this year and I’m wondering 1) if my salary is on par with what I should expect 2) how to approach conversations about raises and promotion with my supervisor. Asking for two of my friends. Age around 22. 1 has done B.Sc in Nursing. And the other has done B.Sc in Agriculture. Both have become hopeless into their respective fields after looking for job and not being able to fetch any better. They want to switch to IT. My question is can they do this if acquired sufficient skills! I mean irrespective of their background, will a company hire them as a intern or fresher? If it's possible, then kindly suggest. How can I not be awkward at conferences where all my remote coworkers that I've never met will be there? I have an issue with awkward silence and not knowing what to say or how to act.

Any thoughts on how do we deal with an incompetent boss who you dont look up to and have no trust that you would ever get credit for the work you would do for him/her? Given that changing the boss is not an option.

When you tell your manager you are unhappy and they are excited that you are putting your notice and don't try and make any changes b/c the new person/persons they are lining up will just cleanup and make it better.

Then, they get here and you are left to train them on everything you do and your manager keeps saying "I owe you an apology" because they didn't realize how taxing and mind wrecking most processes you handled were... welcome to corporate
