of line and they expect people to be ‘slave like’ , and take orders and constantly perform duties outside of their role. While I am all for stepping up , given the size of my portfolio, it’s impossible to meet such expectations. For me to be successful, it’s important I am able to scale , build leaders and move the business forward. How do I deal with such a situation? the amount of time it will take for me to focus on just managing the perception with this one person will take away from my real job
Ask your boss how they communicate with L2 and how often. Maybe they can help you build a rapport with L2.
Mentor
was ur boss hired to compensate management style of L2?
Focus on what you can control and do the work the company has assigned. Document everything that you do and make sure you have receipts for everything. Make sure your manager clearly writes down your deliverables, and that you both are following the duties of the contract you signed with this company. If you are following the scope of your work and what you were assigned to do , and L2 escalates things to say HR, then you have a great case against L2. I don’t think your L2 will do this however, I bet they don’t even remember what they said to you. Some leaders love to talk shit to their employees I’ve learned, and do not check themselves or clearly understand who they are talking to or what that persons scope of work is. It’s super common. If L2 is out of touch like many others, they have no business engaging with you but they do bc they can. If the L2 needed to know what you were doing, and didn’t, that’s on them and they should have come to you and your boss sooner.
Do not waste your time working on someone’s perception of you, that’s a bias this Leader has and it is not okay. Sometimes we can work with people to make sure they understand us in ways they didn’t , but there are times no matter what we do, we cannot change a persons perception. That’s their problem, not you! Control what you can control! I’m sorry this is happening.
