Hi, need advice/opinions. Planning to resign soon but unfortunately I need emergency surgery and will still be recovering on the day I need to give notice, so likely won't be up for a call. Would it be better to send a formal email (manager/HR), or send a heads up message to my manager first? I've been here for less than a year, so it's already not a great look and I don't want to make it worse. I planned to resign in person at an in person catch up I scheduled but it's out of my control now.

I am generally uncomfortable when I’m around my mother-in-law’s husband.

While he is overall a decent guy, his anger issues, yelling at his wife for the slightest issue, and insulting nature makes me uncomfortable and triggers my own anger due to his blatant disrespect for just about everyone around him.
