Moved here temporary at first during the first wave of Covid, but when it came time to go back (to NYC), I couldn’t. I enjoy the space, the slower-paced lifestyle, affordability and the incredible winter (or lack thereof).
I agree with the downside that some people has mentioned on this bowl. Although, people are more fun-loving here, I miss having an intellectual convo that I had with people in Manhattan. I think the ratio of well-rounded people are higher up north. I’m also not into materialistic stuff. Anyways, there are going to be pros and cons everywhere we live. For now, I’m not going anywhere.
I am working remotely for the most part and moved for the lifestyle. I’ve been coming to South Florida/Miami for the last 15 years so I was very familiar with it. Longer term I’d prefer to buy a house and settle in Boca Raton, but I still want the city feel for now.
I was tired of living in a cramped brooklyn apartment during the pandemic
@ svp1, I was working fully remote for a NY based company when I decided to move to miami however I recently got laid off and can confirm the job market in Miami is rough compared to the opportunities available in new york.
Latinos love this cities and want to move here from literally everywhere in Latin America (I’m Mexican btw) , I have no idea what you are talking about. Miami does not have a bad reputation at all. Detroit and Atlanta get trashed so much more
You are talking about Latin American people; I’m asking this question to people mainly from NY and LA who were always making fun of Miami people and swearing by their cities and how great their city is. Now they are all moving here. So my question is not for Latinos nor reggeatoneros or artists.
I moved pre pandemic. My parents retired to Florida and I wanted to be closer. I had no life in ny. Between commuting from Brooklyn to the midtown office, working all day, then doing some more work once I got home, there was little time left for sleep and a sad dinner alone, nevermind actual living. I spent over a decade in my starter apartment - despite my hard work, I could not afford a bigger, nicer, better located apartment. The winters were incredibly miserable - always sick and seasonally depressed. I can keep going. Zero regrets about the move to Miami.
Lived and worked SF, LA, NYC and Miami. Miami was a bet on remote with higher quality lifestyle where people actually enjoy life. However it has been a challenge to find others like-minded.
Same, night life is great but when it comes to great company with similar values, those are left at club door
Miami ad school babyyyyy lol

I was raised in Miami and now got gold teeth 😬
If you have perspective, Miami is the best place on earth. If you don’t, then it has really nice weather.
🤘🏼
Closer to Latin America where family is but enjoy the perks of being in USA
When work became remote I started coming down here more often (from NYC) to work. I was here last January and will never forget the sun being up at like 6 and getting back to NY and it being dark at 4. Realized how much happier I was working when I was in Miami (I wanted to go out and do more active things after work even if I was working late and had an early morning). When I got back to NYC that January my gf and Indecided to start looking.
My wife picked it on whim while we were dating in college. Been here long enough that it’s grown on me.
My job is here. Besides, it's a personal preference. I am fine being here and I am the type of person who doesn't like to always be in the crowd. So, I haven't really experienced what people are talking about with Floridians. But so far it's pretty goof out here.
Miami has great nightlife and good restaurants. Also, it has an international airport to fly anywhere in the world.
Moved here because of work. I'm not even mad about it. I love Miami!
Miami is the most international city in the US that I’ve experienced after living in many places in the US. It feels fresh to be in a place where inclusion and diversity is extra dimensional. People are nice. Live music scene is a little lacking. More of a DJ town.
Only native Floridians hate Miami because it’s full of people that don’t look like them. Yeeehaw. I love Miami.
Most people (from NY/LA) move from those places primarily for financial reasons, politics or for the weather/beaches. Politics aside, while Miami is a world city too, pound for pound, it doesn’t even come remotely close to offering what New York offers however. It all depends on what people are looking for to give them peace. I love both, and I don’t get caught in this stupid political rivalry between both places.
We do. It’s the way the city was designed and the lack of good transportation options, and the all-around bad traffic. Everything else is fine 😆
I haven't heard this except for, a select few New Yorkers.... but they say it while here so....
