If I was going to go into medicine, I’d shoot to be a doctor. I realize the education is substantial, but their earning potential is astronomical comparative to most other positions in medicine. Based on my limited exposure to their profession, their hours aren’t half bad either (after residency).
This is very shortsighted. Becoming a doctor is one of the most strenuous and rigorous academic trainings - intellectually, financially, emotionally, socially etc. you basically are at the mercy of the few spots you match to- first for med school then for residency then for possible post fellowship. You’re committing to uproot your life for your medical training and prioritize it above all else for 8+ yrs with almost a quarter of a million in tuition to pay. It’s not a simple decision.
First, there is nursing, the profession. Do realize, however, there are other professions or areas you can take your nursing degree and hands on experience such as going into hospital management, or so far as starting a startup with your nursing insights. If it’s what you are trully interested in, listen to yourself (of course taking into account what you’re hearing), but don’t discount your path just because of those things.
My aunt’s an RN. Only has an associates degree.
The beginning of the pandemic was the most stressful time for her. No one had any idea what this virus was, staff shortages, and many patients died at her job. She cried a few times.
Even though it can get extremely stressful, she finds her job rewarding since she can help many patients. She’s made around $90k this year.
How long has she been an RN for
4 years
Yea that is the goal for me. But as a young women in this economy. It would be very rewarding and helpful to enter this fiel with my major and experience!
That’s fine. Just make sure you don’t shoot your self in the foot by not taking all the required undergrad classes to enter into med school. It would suck to have to go back to undergrad.
Thank you!!!
Not sure how different the educational requirements are but I know someone who just finished a physician assistant program and the pay is very good.
