Child of immigrants here - my parents worked very hard to provide for my education and for that I am very grateful. But they also put a lot of pressure on me growing up to study and eventually to grow up to provide for my family. In part as a result I developed severe anxiety and depression in law school. I’ve since gone to therapy and I’m actually pretty happy with where I’m at right now in my career. But I struggled for many years. I recently told my mom the whole truth about my (cont).

As a junior, a lot of peers from my generation immediately got internships at top agencies, while I had to start at a very small and un-creative agency.

At the time, it felt very frustrating, like I was running behind. But in hindsight, it was a blessing in disguise. I got a lot of responsibility very fast and I could develop my skills gradually, without being burned. I’m sure this first job helped me enormously later on in my career.
