How can you motivate your market research team to do better? I believe coming up with a brilliant campaign takes in-depth insights from stellar research but I feel my team is always lackadaisical.

That can be tough. Good research requires more than collecting data, it can take some intuition or finesse in knowing what will matter or what will have impact. If the team doesn't seem particularly inspired or intuitive, perhaps it's possible to fire them up somehow. It's easier said than done, but if you can relate to them in a way that will get them to dig deeper and with some insight or intuition, that would be the way forward.

I think you need to set some expectations and offer some feedback at different stages of the research. Offer guidance on where to dig further, what channels you want to research, and outline some specific research questions. Ask for frequent updates, this will keep people on track

Told a friend of mine in tech I was considering moving to BCG. He asked me if I would have to move to Boston.

I followed up by asking what he thought the top consulting firms were. "I'd guess PwC and then McKinsey are the best. I've also heard of KPMG, Deloitte, and Bain, but I don't know much about them."

Just a reminder that outside our bubble no-one really cares about firm prestige etc.

My old employer asked me if I wanted to come back to the company as a manager. The pay will likely be much better and the position holds more responsibility than I’ve had before, so overall it would be a step up. The issue is I left the company because of an abusive manager who constantly put me down and made me feel like I wasn’t doing anything right. If I come back I’d be working under her again.
