Some may see it as a chance to serve their country, to learn new skills, or to travel and see the world. Others may view it as a potential for danger or a loss of personal freedom. I used to think like the former, but now it's more of the latter really.
After serving, many veterans have said that their experiences have changed their perceptions of military life in different ways. Some may have found a sense of camaraderie and purpose, while others I know have faced challenges such as PTSD or physical injuries. I found both, good thing I came out unscathed (i think).

I was raised in a family where every eligible male had served in the Army. I had heard all the “Army stories” & knew I didn’t want to do that. I knew nothing about the Navy…not a clue. When I joined the Air Force, that was the biggest change I didn’t expect. That there were LOTS of smart people in my shop, and they were working their butts off to get more pay, more stripes and more responsibility. I just had not ever worked with people who really had a passion for getting ahead. That was a shock.
