Unfortunately, it seems like the job market is pretty awful right now, no matter what your age or how much experience you have. Would you be open to doing something other than food service work? Freelancing is an option if you have a skill that you could monetize (writing, data entry, etc.), or there's always food delivery or driving for Uber/Lyft. I know those aren't necessarily the goal, but they may help to provide a buffer while you look for something full-time.
DoorDash allows you to use a bicycle to do deliveries. If you can get a good road/commuter bike and a hot food backpack, it may be a good option. My advice is to go down to your university area and deliver down there. Things will be closer and tips will be better. Only thing is you have to be 18
I’ve been in a similar spot for the last 3 months, and it’s been so insanely frustrating. Have you tried walking into places to ask in person or following up after applying? I’ve heard that can help stand out but I'm still working up the energy/courage/whatever to start doing that myself. It feels harder than it should be.
I hope you get a job soon. I have not gone in person yet. I think I'll need to muster up the courage for that
I agree with others - it really helps to walk in during slow hours, ask for the manager, and ask if they’re hiring. It’s a terrible job market right now so you just have to keep on trying.
If you have a whataburger near you they love to work around peoples schedules for school and are open 24 hrs. They pay pretty decent and are family oriented. Try them.
I’ve hired people with just fast food experience, so don’t count that out. Try walking into a place during slow hours and ask to speak with a manager. That face-to-face moment can carry more weight than a resume. What kinds of roles are you applying to, and are they all online or a mix of in-person too?
I see. All the rolls I applied for are crew member roles. All were online followed by a phone call
The job market is really crappy right now and they roles that are being hired for are very competitive due to so many people looking for new rjobs right now. Best thing I would recommend is getting a referral to help you get your foot in the door somewhere.
