I hid things until my toddler forgot about it. There have been times that I’ve had to “help” look for it full knowing it’s been donated, but I’ll redirect to another toy.
Now that my daughter’s older, we do some purging together before Christmas and her birthday so she knows she’s creating space for new toys and things that inevitably get gifted to her
The best advice someone gave me is only leave a few toys out and rotate them. Organize them and put them away. Then pull out new toys every so often when they get bored with the ones available in the room. Put away the ones they are bored with. When they have too many toys it over stimulates them.
That's a good idea, he may be too young for it currently (only 2), but does well when he's given autonomy to choose.
