How do you all handle questions around your career plans when they’re not totally clear to you?

My manager asks during our review sessions, but I always struggle since the path I’ve taken has been anything but straight. I want to have a better answer ready for next time

I am getting an offer of 12lpa fixed from EY GDS. YoE 5 years. Cybersecurity domain. My fixed was at 8.7 lpa. How is the offer? Rank is 44.

Currently making $75k, which is very low compared to my counterparts. However, in February I’m supposed to get a salary adjustment with my yearly review. I got a job offer for $120k-150k which I turned down cuz I want to stay at Adobe.

So back in July I went out for a new position at my small company that was rapidly expanding (Account Manager). Was notified that I didn't get the full promotion but was told instead that I was still moving up and was going to be Customer Service/Account Manager Support. The new Account Manager had no customer service experience within our niche industry. I instead had to help help him with all customer service issues.

Questions about job hopping-
My average tenure at a company is ~1.5 years (with ~11 YOE), but each jump I've made has yielded progressive/tangible career growth.

I'm concerned after my most recent jump (went from a product director to a head of product position at a different, smaller company after only a year) that I've kind of poisoned future career prospects at larger companies.

Any insights on whether this type of job hopping is a complete deal breaker for potential HMs?

Recently, i was "promoted" or, I should say, my title was changed to the next ring up the ladder. As a part of this, I went from reporting to Senior Management, to Junior Management. The Jr. Manager has good intentions, but, is not helpful. I've worked at the company longer, have accomplished more across multiple lines of business and have a much stronger internal network. Am I overreacting thinking this is a major slight that will ultimately slow down my growth within the company?

Does the addition of “(level) II” make a difference to anybody? I am the only marketing communications specialist for a lead child-welfare nonprofit. We oversee four counties in two circuits. Director recently gave me add’l merit-based raise (after my annual raise, been here 14 months) & slight title change to Marketing Comm Specialist II. No plans to add a level 1 (would be lower) specialist but will add level 1 engagement specialist to team. Should I update resume/cards or is this confusing?

Is this too big of an ask on a new employer if I request unpaid leave for this time? Hey folks, I work in marketing and program management and, along with everyone else, the recession is hitting me hard financially. When I try to find companies that pay well, they’re all in tech… but all those companies are laying off, freezing and rescinding offers (had one rescinded myself) 😕 so my question to all of you - what industries/sectors are still in demand for marketers/program managers right now that actually pay well?

I’ve been a creative strategist, account manager (both agency) and an ad sales operations manager (television/digital media) and I’m tired of bouncing around. I’m trying to narrow down paths that I can take now, but am at a loss. There are so many ways I could go. Because of my last two roles I have a great interest in creative operations type positions, but I’m not quite sure how actually land the job. Any thoughts?
