I’ve been a creative strategist, account manager (both agency) and an ad sales operations manager (television/digital media) and I’m tired of bouncing around. I’m trying to narrow down paths that I can take now, but am at a loss. There are so many ways I could go. Because of my last two roles I have a great interest in creative operations type positions, but I’m not quite sure how actually land the job. Any thoughts?

A reason you are getting overlooked could be that - based on likedin - your last activity in a related role was in 2018.

Even though you've been inactive due to health issues, the best thing you can do is start to show current activity doing something relevant to the roles you want.

Even if it is a small project you can assist someone with, it will show perseverance.

Maybe there is someone in your network - this network - that can give you some work (research, an audit, etc) - even if it is done for free.

Apprenticeships are another route that can provide experience, references, from real businesses.

This type of 'offering to help with any projects' could be part of your messaging when reaching out to your network.

Before you start networking, get focused. a) Define a list of 10 companies you want to work for. b) Define your unique value prop - what is it that you do better than anyone else?

Feel free to message me if you want to discuss more.

^ Additionally, I haven’t been able to work for about two years (resolved health issues then covid hit). I’m being passed on time and time again despite having semi big names on my resume and I don’t know how to convince a hiring manager to give me the time of day.

With that amount of time off you may have to a) look for a way to lateral internally to that sort of role, b) find a small company willing to take a chance on you, or c) take a role at a lower level than your experience warrants and work your way back up again.

How's your network? This is where you have to lean on your people so you don't have to resort to any of these.

If you're open to a), Accenture has a lot of agency roles in our marketing and advertising business and we're hiring across the board. PM me if you want to learn more.

Thanks for the reply!

I’m definitely looking at more entry level positions since I’ve been away for so long. I’m happy to work my way up again.

My global network is pretty solid, but it’s mostly in Sydney and NYC while I’m in LA now. My network here is fairly small, but the people I know are quite senior.

I would absolutely be interested in learning more. I will reach out, thank you!

Hi all! Currently in the process of a career pivot and had a question. My current company wants me to come back for a two week project in August. Is this too big of an ask on a new employer if I request unpaid leave for this time? I had asked them about delaying start date until this project is over but it was too far away, and I’ll start this month instead but haven’t yet. I don’t want to leave or start on a bad note so wondering if it’s even worth bringing up. Thanks!

Is it wise to go to my company’s competitor for a promotion and risk burning a bridge?

For context, my small company was suddenly bought out by a large corp. I was about to get promoted to leadership but the new company doesn’t want to honor the title/salary increase we worked out. We only have one significant competitor in our industry, and it’s likely my best option. Love my company, been with them for years, but I’m really struggling with how frustrating this situation is.

Hi! I currently have a job offer with a salary of 75k+commission at a AdTech company, but I am currently interviewing at Spotify for a Marketing Executive role. I was wondering what is the salary, the perks, benefits, if it’s worth continue with the interview process and people’s experience

Currently working at Perforce Software in Minneapolis as a writer making 70k. Was offered a job to be a writer at Amazon Alexa for 95k plus 11k sign on and shares.

Is this new job DOA? I’ve been in my new role 6 weeks after interviewing extensively and getting 5 offers and thinking back on those offers I turned down. Hey folks, I work in marketing and program management and, along with everyone else, the recession is hitting me hard financially. When I try to find companies that pay well, they’re all in tech… but all those companies are laying off, freezing and rescinding offers (had one rescinded myself) 😕 so my question to all of you - what industries/sectors are still in demand for marketers/program managers right now that actually pay well?
