Going by the numbers, there's a reason. IOS has a larger market share in the US than Android. That seems surprising, but that's the effect of marketing and having people treat their phones like a fashion item. Anyway, I shouldn't think it would be difficult for people to pick up using IOS. That's whole point of Apple, anyone should find it easy to use. But, you have a point in that you don't need to hop on the Apple bandwagon to make good content.
How do I feel about it? I don’t like it at and wish all employers gave a choice. But unfortunately some companies have a preference and have a specific set of hardware/software that they can provide.
That being said, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect employees to be fluent and learn additional operating systems. Plus you’ll most likely encounter a lot more tools and software in the future that you may need to adapt to (and learn), and those might not be as intuitive. Learning how to use additional software is a great skill to have.
Wait they’re making you purchase a phone? Work should be done on employer provided devices.
@Senior Product Manager1 Not mine, but I've heard some say their company insists they purchase their own.
If you feel that way - just quit and don’t buy the phone 🤷♂️
In a perfect world, we’d have a choice. I’d pay to not use windows though
