For lateral or in house?

Lateral

Hey there! Feel free to send me a message! I’d be happy to chat.

Happy to share the contact for the recruiter I worked with via dm. I also lateraled within NY and my friends who worked with her also had great experience and results.

Feel free to DM me. I used multiple recruiters while lateraling at v10 firms and now at in house. I can give you some honest, hopefully helpful insight.

What industry/practice area are you in now?

Finance associate, but I really enjoyed working with my recruiter last year for a lateral between two v30 firms and was able to negotiate decent signing bonus. DM me if you want his deets.

For folks commenting that the used a recruiter who they liked…go to their LinkedIn and leave a positive recommendation. This will mean a lot to them.

My wife and I are considering relocating to a new city. I’ve been working with a recruiter who (I thought) gave me a good lay of the land. Which firms to meet with re lateral opportunities, which to avoid, etc. I’ve since spoken with a friend who has connections at other firms that could be a better fit. Do I bring in my recruiter or reach out through connections? Is using a recruiter beneficial to me, or am I better off on my own? How does their fee play in to what I could get as a package?

What’s the best way to turn down a 2nd interview? During the 1st interview, I learned that the compensation for the role is not within the range that I am looking for and requires 400 more billable hours a year than what I bill now. I’d basically be laterally for my current salary just to bill 400 more hours. I also wasn’t aware that the local office was strictly ID. Firm website advertises lots of practice areas. Any advice? TIA!

Foreign LLM student here. I plan to take the NY bar exam in February. I’m thinking of taking a bar prep course (most likely Barbri). They offer two options: the “traditional” course (which lasts around 2.5 months) and an extended 6-month course. The difference in price is substantial – 2.5k for the traditional course vs 6k for the extended one. Any thoughts/recommendations on which one I should take? In case it is helpful, I come from a civil law country. Thanks!

I have been at my current firm for about 1.5 years, and in that entire time the partner in my group hasn't been out of the office a single time. Is that normal?
