Job-Hunting reach-out to VC from previous fundraising effort for own startup
I have e-mail archive from 1y ago of my reach-out to 65 VCs in London: we had video calls, they might remember me still, who knows.
I want to send a reply/forward message to the same e-mail thread from abc@gmail.com, saying that I am looking for roles within their VC firm. Is that a good idea?
Or shall I just start new email thread and mention how I know them?

I’ve heard referrals by sr manager or above make a difference, and none by others
Referrals are prioritized in the screening process because it indicates the referrer did some screening before mapping the candidate and helps recruiters focus on a sub-population of applicants as their first round of review. Disagree with the other comment here about WHO refers you because I've helped hire Ms and SMs myself and also helped SMs at my firm even understand the referral process. Sure it's natural that higher ups will be taken more seriously but it all comes down to the specific resume and interview performance

Never used one
Agree with D1, with that said, I came in off the street with no referral, so it can be done.

I do a lot of hiring, and a real referral (worked together before, personally vouching for someone) Carries a lot of weight. It’s not required, but it’s a big leg up.
Very important. You'll probably get rejected either way, but your odds go from 1% chance of success to 10% relatively speaking (made up numbers). Check glassdoror. You'll see that applied online vs got referral are often similar chunks of employee source, but you know that many more people apply online vs through a referral, so the easier path is clear.
Maybe the better question is where are you trying to apply to?
Thanks all for weighing in. I was truly just curious. I’m fine at KPMG for now!
