Had this question pop up a lot recently - discussed here many times before, but want to see if we can quantify the discussion a bit. Let’s assume the vaccine is at 70% shots in arms by 4th of July (‘21), and 80-85% by Labor Day. In 2022, are we back to 3/4/5, or do you think parts of the remote culture will stick going forward?

I don’t see us ever going back to the old travel model, with exceptions for specific offerings where it actually is required (production line optimization on the actual factory floor, or whatever).

Our clients won’t be in their offices 4 days a week, why would we fly to where they are if they’re not going to be there?

like

If the vaccine has been administered, then it depends on what the client wants. There’s nothing else to debate here. We’re in client services — if our client wants us to be there, we will go. Because if we don’t, our competitors will

It’s not going to reach that high of a percentage. Too many skeptics/antivax. Plus we’ll probably start needing boosters by then.

I think everyone who wants a vaccine will have it by end of year. Then things will mostly move on by then but the disease will still be with us and some people will still limit their participation in some activities.

I do not think weekly travel will be an automatic default anymore but it will be common again in 2022.

like

Yes but early research shows the need for boosters as immunity does not last very long.

smart

Clients realize that they don't actually have to pay for us to fly around the country, stay at Bonvoy hotels and eat at expensive restaurants for us to deliver.

Some travel will return, particularly during the sales process or at the kickoff of an engagement, but I don't see things going back to weekly travel. Routine travel has been proven largely unnecessary.

like

It probably will not reach that percentage because of younger folks. Just got my vaccine on Thursday and battling fatigue and chills all over.

I don’t understand what you’re saying here

Travel will never return to the old model on large scale. As mentioned above, will be required for certain engagements and I am sure some clients will demand it as well. For others, the cost will prevent it.

I see the normal being travel to kickoff, then every other week or every 3 weeks and maybe more travel at the end. Other projects may be fully remote.

Talked a lot with clients about it that all said „i will go back to the office 2-3 days per week“. I read this as travel TUE-THu

What is the drug culture like at your office? I assume people don’t openly talk about what they do in their free time if illicit, but they may do so quietly or you can otherwise tell.
Do you get the impression many people do them? If so, soft drugs (ex - weed)? Hard drugs? Non-prescribed study drugs? Frequency? At work-sponsored social functions? To an extent that it’s noticeable/problematic?

Looking for referrals for a Technical Sales Executive position that is Remote (USA), possibly in the industrial sector. Last year I made $109k at AT&T so I'm hoping to at least stay in the same ball park but want a change. I have been thinking a role in the industrial sector with a longer sales cycle may be a good fit, can travel up to 25%

I’ve made it 5+ years in a NY M&A practice and have consistent exceeding expectations reviews. I’ve had a few mental breakdowns because of work during this time, but thankfully made it through.
