Assume you can be let go tmrw. So it may be best to position yourself accordingly if you are getting indicators that you’re being pushed out. For example, are other ppl being assigned work and you’re just not getting work at all? If so, is that an indicator? Or have other women who have taken maternity leave also underwent the same conditions you’re experiencing?
I feel the same way after returning from mat leave. I am currently looking just in case. A firm that treats me like that is not a long term prospect. Hope you find something soon! Solidarity!

I think it very much depends on the market. Right now hiring is slowing because its the 4th quarter. If I were you, I'd start looking ASAP but assume that it'll be a few months before you get anything.
