The gaps are quite amazing. I was shocked by the comments I read from an Illinois teacher. Their words sounded so pig headed. All triggered by the word “conservative”.

How much in hand will be required enough to have a quality life inside kerala with spouse,kids and parents? What are the various ways that you are following to achive it(to get the salary and/or live with whatever currently you are earning)? Do you have any source of second income? Can you name a firm (preferably NY office) that lets its associates work from a different country with no issues? The mid-size firm I’m currently at has been very flexible during covid but I’m looking to change firm (biglaw). Since my family is abroad I find it extremely valuable to be able to do this (I did this even before covid for a couple of weeks, twice a year). I’ve heard firms like Latham and Paul Weiss don’t allow it for tax reasons.

Leaving after one year to another biglaw firm?

I lateraled to my current firm less than a year ago, 2 months into the firm’s billable year. But I’m going to hit the yearly billable target regardless. What should I expect to receive as a bonus? Just regular bonus for hitting the billable target? Extra because I hit it in less than a full year? How does this work? Would appreciate any insight!

Associates, do you want to be copied on emails to service providers/vendors (like CSC, CT, etc)? My thought is you get a billion emails everyday and don’t need more, but maybe I’m wrong?

Conventional wisdom on current firm counter-offering when mentioning you have a few offers? I have an offer at a large firm in Miami. Current large firm has no office there but mentioned they can likely let me be there in a remote basis. BCG and a few other law blog sites have advised against accepting current firm counter-offers, e.g., likely to leave, not loyal, off partner track, etc., but would love to hear everyone’s thoughts.

I feel like Orrick has such a good rep but in here people seem to complain a lot. Anyone know anything about TCG or corporate?

How many matters is typical for one associate to handle (BL lit)? I know it is group-specific, but just trying to get a general idea. I’m a 2nd year and I am the only associate staffed on about 30 cases-meaning I keep track of all deadlines, do all day to day assignments, keep on top of following up with client/OC, and all research/drafting. Partners handle deps/court but that is about it. Is this a normal case load to be responsible for as a jr? I being dramatic by thinking this is too much?

Already spoke with a partner who wanted something done this morning for him to review and then we discuss again. Sent it to him about 4 hours ago. Should take him half an hour to review max. At what point can I check in with him to see when we can catch up so I’m not waiting in the office all day?
