Finally found THE one, after over a year of searching and trying out at least 5 different ones!
A nice comfortable office chair.

My criteria: mesh seat and back, arms, headrest
I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.
AMA.
Work sucks and I just wanna cuddle 🥺

Long!
Submit your paperwork the day after you find out you passed. This will help tremendously and put you ahead of everyone else who sat for the bar at the same time. July exam here, admitted December of the same year.
I interact with the business folks. The GC is usually the one handling the bills.
Depends on the department.
I wish NY was like other states where you can just have a judge swear you in whenever you are certified by the board of bar examiners and character and fitness. Instead you have to wait for hell to freeze over before you get sworn in
Took me over a year
I’m 1st department and still not sworn in. I have other friends (all departments) who got sworn in as early as ~February. Not uncommon for 1st department people to not get sworn in till late summer.
🥲
Approximately forever
Rising Star
As long as you want. What's the rush? The sooner you get sworn in the sooner you have to start paying them and the sooner you have to start meeting the CLE and any other requirements.
CLE compliance year in NY is based on your birthday.
It took about 3.5 months give or take from the July bar results release date when I did it
Third department and allegedly will be sworn in 11 months after the bar
Passed July 19 but didnt take mpre until end of 19, admitted in Feb 22
It typically takes anywhere from 2-6 weeks to get sworn in after you've passed the bar in New York. For me, it was about two weeks from the time I submitted my paperwork to the time I was officially sworn in. My advice is to stay on top of your paperwork, and make sure everything is submitted in a timely manner so you can get sworn in as soon as possible.
This is BONKERS and not necessarily typical - it took me and almost everyone in my class year approx 4-6 months, at least in the second department. I think it was a little over 5 months for me - submitted in Jan, sworn in mid May
Can you pick the department? Does it matter which you submit to?
Depends either on personal address or work address
If you apply with a NY address, your department will be based on where you reside. Otherwise it’s just assigned. With that being said passed in July 21 and sworn in February 22 in the First Department.
*Apply to sit for the bar exam
It can be as early as few weeks and sometimes it may take up to a year. That entirely depends on what kind of department.
If you have ever gotten a speeding ticket, get a lifetime driving record ASAP. Depending on the state where your license is, you may have to go in person. It delayed me several months.
Lol yup! They said they didn’t want a 7 year (even though my ticket was only 4 years before i applied). Now at the end of the day I sent the 7 year and said “i have to go all the way to georgia so it could be a while” and they approved my application while i was trying to make travel plans. But def made it take months longer.
Took July 2021, found out I passed October 2021, sworn into first dept April 2022
took me a year
Lol I passed in July 2021 and didn’t get sworn in until April. But that’s because I needed my pro bono completed. That was finished in December though
Passed the Feb ‘22 bar but couldn’t sit the MPRE until August so I submitted my application to the 2nd Department in October. I was sworn in this month, C&F interview waived. Amusingly we got results in April ‘22 and I was admitted in New Jersey four weeks later. I renewed in NJ before I was admitted in NY lmao.
The only answer is “forever”
There are 2nd years at my firm still waiting because of clerical errors at the second department
