How to avoid Sunday scaries and how does your pre-Monday look like (i.e. Sunday night)? I'm a corporate associate and have a ton of work next week. I could get ahead and work over the weekend, but I feel like I at least need Saturday to fully log off at work. Came back to school in August with a cruise ship still sitting on my stage. We walked away from Anything Goes the day after the sitzprobe because of the quarantine. Still taking the wind out of my sails.

Completely and totally miserable at my firm and just need a space to vent because my friends are tired of hearing about it. I wish the worst part about it was the amount of work, rather than the completely toxic culture, lack of appreciation, arbitrary and back/breaking deadlines, lack of mentorship/feedback/training, and the fact that the associates act like they don’t even know each other. Let’s talk speed reading. I’m a slow reader and listened to a podcast recently on speed reading. I’m intrigued. Who here speed reads? How did you learn those skills, and what types of documents do you speed read in practice? I do mostly litigation and am thinking that speed reading would help with research but maybe not things like doc review where you need to review for both responsiveness and privilege.

Over heard today about bad behavior in biglaw : if you had to explain to someone’s parents or loved ones how you treated them and you’d be unable to do so without feeling awkward or embarrassed, you are the problem.

First couple times drafting ancillary docs—is it normal to not get everything/feel like I have no idea if I got stuff right. Or is the expectation that the docs be drafted 100% in executable form.

Curious - would you consider a lateral move to a lower ranked firm if the practice group is higher ranked than at your current firm? In other words what’s more important - firm or practice group ranking?
