Pros: More affordable rent compared to other areas in Midtown and Lower Manhattan. Easy commute since the red, blue and yellow line are all in proximity. Lots of bars. Best area to live in if you’re LGBTQ. Never felt unsafe.
Cons: Close proximity to 42nd Street station and Times Square crowds. People who don’t live here think it’s the projects.
I'm a single 20s M in Hell's Kitchen and I've seen a fair handful around in my past ~ 9 months here - agree with the Pros/Cons above, if you're into the bar scene you'll probably have an interesting time.
Can refer to my building (Mercedes house), it’s north of HK closer to UWS, much cleaner/more convenient (especially nice during lockdown as it’s 10mins to Central Park and 5mins to Riverside park)
Before Covid it was improving and becoming like Chelsea North, but that all changed with lockdown and the homeless situation. We used to live at the Orion and loved the building but the neighborhood really turned to crap, lots of crime and just feels unsafe, and half of the good restaurants and bars closed. We gave up on the neighborhood and moved to Long Island. If you're still single that's probably not an option for you, but HK would be about my last choice of neighborhood in Manhattan.
