Try to join classes, hobby clubs, teams etc. No reason to be shy or have anxiety. We're all the same, I could literally talk to random people on the street and be best friends with them in 10 minutes. Not because I think I'm some social butterfly but just because I know if I am being genuine, honest and interested in speaking with them, chances are we will share at least a few things in common.
And another point to this, if you don’t like them, you never have to see them again 😂 big city with lots of options!
I am shy so I decided to try a free improv class basically everyone there was trying to make friends, get better at public speaking or the rare ones that actually wanted to learn improv haha. It was easy to meet people. Granted some were too weird but lots of cool people from all different backgrounds. Also good for networking.
Yeah that was the point... I went to learn how to break out of my comfort zone and how to come up with things to say to new people. Turns out there were a lot of people like me with the same goals there.
Same here, pandemic and hitting 30 and since moving here for a new job 2 years ago, it's been a little tough. I love my solitude but need more friends

Let’s hang!
You don’t need friends to have a good time.

Kinda do
OP, NYC is a great place to make friends and build connections. I’ve been here 1.5 yrs and it was people I met at the bar, friends of friends, a random conversation with someone watching softball at CP etc. Also, (in my experience), no friend jumper shaming.
I was able to get to know my neighbors over the pandemic and I love that my building is a lil community.
Find an activity, reach out to folks, have fun. Good luck! ♥️
For what it’s worth, I’ve been here a dozen years and my friend groups have changed a few times based on people leaving. But there’s always new people to meet! I’ve diversified my friends and now have 2-3 smaller groups that I hang out with. And i rarely say no to an invite :)

I’m in the same boat, moved to the city during the pandemic so haven’t been able to make any friends unfortunately. How do you make friends as an adult??
It’s easy in NY. There are tons of people from out of town, New Yorkers are very sociable, there are activities and clubs for every interest, conferences, events, social gatherings all the time etc. it’s so easy to meet people you just have to fill up your calendar until it is packed and just shmooze. I’m an introvert and still manage to talk to random people every few days. Some of which I talk to on iMessage everyday and became normal friends with over time.
Volunteering is a great way to make friends. Met a lot of people this year through this group. https://instagram.com/cleanupcrownheights?utm_medium=copy_link
Totally get that. I started going a bunch and there were some people that kept on coming back. So i invited a fellow regular to grab a coffee with me and we did that a few times before becoming actual friends.
If you pay the beer I can be your friend
Can’t a VP pay for their own beer
Down to hang as well!
