I am so sorry this happened to you! I understand your disappointment especially after having waited so long and then get some ambiguous reason such as “culture fit” For someone with a strong EEO background that term is a red flag. You won’t get any clear or honest answers at this point. But if you go back over conversations that were had, the way the company addresses challenges, the dynamics and interactions employees have with one another, and the overall culture you might find, after much reflection, the underlying problem. Sometimes, upon review, you will see where you were not in alignment and things that made you take a step back and pause. Many companies write down their values but don’t follow them and they want you to play along. When you don’t appear to be that kind of person, suddenly you no longer “fit”
Take a closer look (its the subtle things, attitudes, that you want to take a step back and look at it again) were there things they asked of you or did that didn’t quite sit right? Or maybe… it is an EEO issue? Maybe not, but people don’t make decisions in a vacuum.
Good luck my friend. I am sure you dodged a bullet that was coming further down the line.
How much reflection can be done after 2 weeks??
Don't let them shatter your confidence. They let you go for "reasons" they can't explain. If they can't tell you, that wasn't good leadership. Sounds like you didn't fit their underhanded culture. They shouldn't have given the salary you asked for if they couldn't afford it. That's not on you. You know this. It is frustrating but it doesn't sound like it had anything to do with you. If you were struggling with "culture" a good culture would have helped you; not fire you.
