I could use some advice

I was recently approached about an executive leadership opportunity at another organization. On paper, it seems like an excellent career opportunity and one that could provide significant professional growth.

The challenge is that over the past year, I have become deeply invested in my current community. I’ve built strong relationships with residents, staff, and families, and the thought of leaving is far more emotional than I expected.

Is this normal to feel?

Yes it is! Its called anxiety! All money is not good money. Pray about this if you believe in prayer. I did it and it was very rewarding.

I agree, but it's important to think it through carefully. Ultimately, the decision is yours. You can choose to stay in your comfort zone with lower pay, or you can step outside of it and pursue opportunities that could significantly advance your career and help secure a better future for your retirement.

At the same time, remember that greater rewards often come with greater responsibilities. As the saying goes, with great power comes great responsibility.

So first, it's normal to be anxious about switching jobs, and the last year has been an emotional investment for you. It's normal, don't sweat that you're feeling it. That said:

Every job needs three things to not suck: good pay, good people, and a good mission, and you only need two of the three. It sounds like you've got good people where you are, and that you enjoy the purpose of the job? I'd weigh the potential career growth against the risk.

I strongly agree. In today’s job markets you could be miserable in this new job. Stay with your current job, it seems you are happy.

Life is short. Choose happiness and less stress.

Yes, it is normal. Anytime you leave a job that isn't toxic, one in which you invested in the relationship not just the job, to take a better position, you will have a pang of remorse.

It sounds like you need to do a bit more research about the new organization. Talk to the employees, both those that would be your peers, those above you and ones you would manage. Get a feel for the job past what's on paper. Maybe have a discussion with leadership where you are about growth opportunities there?

If you know you want the new job and were just surprised by the reaction you got when you thought of telling people you were leaving, know that it's normal. Think if the roll was reversed. You might be sad to loss a coworker, but you would congratulation them on a great opportunity that you thought was well deserved.

Totally! And it means you probably work at a good place. Given you had that experience, it’s totally feasible you can replicate that somewhere else too. If you think the new opportunity is good for your development, I’d acknowledge all the great things in your current role and give the new one a shot.
