I got a freelance opportunity at a smaller agency to help with some pitch work. They asked to see my portfolio. I have a bunch of cool pitch concepts from a recent win at my current agency but the work hasn’t gone live (yet). I know technically the client owns it, and sharing it may be a breach of contract. Can I include it in a private portfolio deck just to show creative thinking, or is that too risky?

I have never done freelance work and was given the opportunity to take part in a cool project. My problem is it’s a proactive case by a brand new agency and it’s their own project, meaning there’s no client who pays for the work. For them it’s PR for their new business, but I think they’re expecting me to work completely pro bono. It does have potential for a great case and I’d love to have it in my portfolio, but is it reasonable for them not to compensate me? Any tips on how to approach this?
