I got an offer on Friday and they gave me 48 hours to respond. Is that the normal going timeframe now? I’m planning to respond and start the salary conversation, but was a bit surprised at the quick turnaround.

They probably have another candidate. If you’re going to ask for more in salary. Just ask for what you want. There’s this perception that “negotiating” is a major tasks. But it’s not. They will either say yes or no. And if they decide to rescind the offer they will.

like

Yeah, I feel like 48 hours is pretty standard these days, but it’s totally fine to ask for more time, especially if you’re planning to negotiate. I usually respond with enthusiasm, then ask for a day or two to review and discuss the offer details. Most companies are open to it.

like

My current job which I started in July of last year gave me about 24 hours. Unless you have other offers, what’s the hesitation to responding within 48 hours? Even if you want to negotiate the 48 hour deadline, doesn’t mean that negotiations have to be complete by then you just need to have your initial response done by then but I wouldn’t wait 48 hours.

like

Yea that’s pretty standard. You can ask for more time if you need it, but make sure it’s a reasonable amount of time.

That's pretty normal, but it can feel a little bit stressful because it's a huge life change that you're agreeing to in only two days. I think it's just to prevent them from losing other candidates if the salary negotiation doesn't work out.

I've always been given 3 days.

Depends on the role.

For upper management roles, I can see more time being offered. For individual contributors and early management roles I see a short window as common.

For the future, I would recommend acknowledging receipt of their offer shortly upon its arrival and let them know that 48 hours is a tight timeframe for you (if you need more time). Tell them how much time you need, but do not drag it out too long. They have other candidates and will not hesitate to move on from you.

It’s standard. Highest I’ve seen these days is a week or 5 working days.

Hardly unusual. Asking for another day or two to examine their offer in detail and because you have another offer coming in is usually accepted. If it isn't, that's a red flag.

Different hiring managers could give you different amounts of time to review an offer, but to me, you're lucky to receive more than 24 hours. I hope the negotiation works out for you!!

48 hours sound standard

Since it's EOY, it should be fun to compare notes on our our past investments, in terms of returns and strategies, to help us in the new year ahead.

So here I start with mine: From early last year around the start of the pandemic to today, I have grown my investment (cash + IRAs) from about $1M to about $3.4M today. My Fidelity chart below:

I wonder how many here are doing better, or similar, or worse than this. How's your overall investment doing, and what your chart looks like?

Hello everyone,

I wanted to know how long does Course5i take to release an offer, I cleared all rounds last friday and was going to get an offer from HR early this week (by Monday evening or Tuesday) but didn’t get any offer till now.

I loved the role and I am still excited to join the organisation so mailed a follow up to the HR yesterday but did not get any response till now. I do not want to follow up for the next 1-2 days since I feel it would be too pushy from my end.

Should I Go Back and Reneg? Recently I was offered a role as a Project Implementation Manager (In Retirement Services) .The salary range for Colorado residents was 65-89K. I’m located in NY so the recruiter said he would try to get me more. Ultimately he came back at 90K which is a bit inline with that I was seeing on Glassdoor but approx looks like I may leave 10-12K on the table. I accepted already but may get an offer from another HR company in account management around 90-100K. Need advice

Got an offer for Sr. Financial Analyst for 85k & 10% annual bonus. What's a good counteroffer? I told the recruiter 95k-110k when I first interviewed. This position is 100% remote, headquartered in VA. I live in NYC. Have roughly 2 YOE.

Thanks.

I’m currently in a lease admin type role, in commercial real estate. I make a base salary of $50.5K with about $9k in bonuses. I’ve continuously received 7-10% raises over the last 3 years.
