I have an interview lined up for next week, but an unexpected personal emergency has come up that conflicts with the scheduled time. I really need to reschedule, but I'm worried about making a bad first impression. How can I politely ask to move my interview without messing up my chances?

If they don't allow you to reschedule, accept that as a bullet dodged and move on. Most likely they will reschedule with you, but if they're so cutthroat that they don't, I say that's not an employer you'd want to work for.

Don't overthink it. Interviewers are human beings too. The most important thing is that you reach out about it ASAP. I would have this scheduled to send at 9 AM Monday morning. As long as you give proper notice, it shouldn't be a big deal at all. They'll only get annoyed if you put it off uuntil the very last minute.

Just get in touch and explain the situation. But be careful how you describe it, you can't call it an emergency if it's something coming up days from now. But just be honest and polite and professional and explain whatever the unexpected situation may be and ask to reschedule.
