I have an offer from One great company that I need to reply to by end of the week and Google had reached out to me after two months of radio silence wanting to move me forward to the last interview round. The offer I got was for a product design position while google wants to potentially hire me as a visual designer… what do I do??? I’m so stressed. I don’t know if I should just accept the offer and then jump ship if Google decides to hire me.

Take the job, continue the interview process with google, leave later if you really think google is the end game… no shame in looking out for yourself

like

Tell google to speed up the process if possible?
If not, then accept the offer you have if it’s something you could see yourself enjoying, and if you get an offer from google before your start date you could always just resign before even starting

like

I also want to mention, the offer I have is for a product designer position 85k with a 5k sign on bonus. While google wants to interview me for a visual designer position and from the sound of the role, it seems really boring and not what I want to do. Another thing is the offer is based in Chicago where I live while google wants me to move to SF… which I really don’t want to do. I thought about it and I think I’m going to reject google even though they are my dream job, I don’t think its the right time.

like

I think that’s a good idea. Don’t go just for the name. Go with your gut. It sounds like either offer will be a great opportunity. Good luck!!

I had a similar situation where I had two job offers at the same time. I really wanted the first job but their offer was terrible (literally a $10K pay cut from my last job). The second offer was less interesting but a much better money. I declined the first job and accepted the second, but a few days later the first came back with a competitive offer. So, I quit the second job halfway through the onboarding process.

I felt bad about doing it, but then a friend reminded me that companies make offers and then rescind them all the time. It has actually happened to me at least twice (e.g. I received an offer, but then the director of the division cancelled all new hiring). Obviously, I burned my bridges at the second company when I quit after 2 days, but I think it was the right choice.

Since you aren't sure if you even would accept the Google offer, I think you can accept the first job in good faith. If the Google offer ends up being awesome, then go ahead; you will burn bridges and you don't have to list your week or two at the first job on your resume.

like

I am seconding EY1 response. I have seen a number of people do this over the years. Someone at my current company just did this last week.

But doesn’t that look horrible on your resume? Plus I don’t want to burn bridges since the company that gave me an offer is a top tech company in Chicago. I see Chicago as my home base unlike San Francisco. Google did let me know the whole process is going to take 4-6 weeks. Which if I were to start my new job and then get a google offer I’d be there for less than a week…

You wouldn’t put the other company on your resume if you’re only there for a super short time.

Hi all,
Need some advice.
I got the highest offer from LnT worth 17, but I can try for some more comapnies and get higher offers.
But ,I also want to retain in capgemini if they match the package.
Should I stop interviews & approach my manager or should I wait for him to call me again ? He had already called once saying he would match the package.
Am I being too greedy if I ask for 18/19 to retain?Or should I just ask for 17 so that repport between me and my manager remains intact?

Hey fellow designers,

Is anyone else facing the brunt of working in a service based company and trying to move to a startup product company being dragged down by the 90 days notice period.

I have had a couple of interviews with good startup product companies where the main issue is my 90 days of notice period. Most startups simply run away at the mention of 90 days NP.

Even established product companies shy away at this. Has anyone recently switched despite this long a notice period?

I have 4.3 YOE currently and I was offered Engr II - Full Stack position in VDSI. But after doing some research it seems Engr II is usually for YOE between 2 and 4. Is this correct? Will there be a problem for me if I take up this position with my YOE?
Since I am a lateral entry, I think promotion to Engr III also would take a lot of time.

Also can you please let me know the current designation hierarchy in VDSI?

Now that I’m in the role, how should I go about speaking with my manager on getting to the next pay level and getting to where I should be? I should be at least $20k higher right now.
