I have been in dialysis for 24 yrs. I know all aspects of the different modalities. I am the most senior nurse there. I am a preceptor and train all new hires. I recently found out that the last nurse I trained (who is also the weakest link) makes more money than me per hour. This nurse is can not function on her own without the daily help of others. Shes been in the business as long as I have. I dont know what to do. It feels like a slap in the face. And I really dont want to help her anymore.

I recommend you request to meet with the person you report to and say share the information you mentioned. Instead of saying you don’t want to help her, you could express that you have always been happy to take on the extra work of training new staff, but that the knowledge regarding new hires are making more than you leaves you feeling unappreciated and disrespected. If you otherwise love your job, I would share that you love your job, but can’t help feeling taken advantage of and bitter. I would likely end the conversation with a statement regarding that as you were thinking through it, it occurred to you that this company would not intentionally do this and it must be some process issue that led to the oversight. Then ask what they can do to correct it.

They can either get it corrected or you have your answer, and you might be more appreciated and respected by a new employer.

It’s not her fault about the pay, so I’d go to administration about that aspect but her being the weakest link is her own fault.
