While the law requires it, it seems that there’s no mandatory lunch for being a nurse or other healthcare provider. What's your experience?

Here in California, we actually have a "break nurse" who works from 10-3 and breaks everyone- their 15 minute and 30 minute lunch. It's super nice.

I don't remember ever getting a lunch. I eat while I watch fetal heart rate monitoring and jump up, if needed.

When I worked in the hospital as an ER nurse breaks never were scheduled and even if you had time you were usually interrupted and 30 mins were more like 5. As a provider I worked in an urgent care where I was the only provider on and never got a break.

It’s depends on the state. In certain states you are mandated to take a lunch break for (x) minutes after (x) number of hours of work.

I work in CA as a FNP and don’t remember ever getting a dedicated break, but it may be different for providers.

I work nightshift and there are days I can take a break as long as someone’s there to watch my patients. But no one cares whether you get a break it or not... I’ve had busy shifts where I didn’t get a second to sit!

Additional Posts in Nurses

Hello all, I work full time as an RN at the VA. I’ve been looking for a side hustle to do on my own time. I would love to review cases such as prior authorization, records for 2nd opinions, etc. The positions that I come across generally require a commitment of at least 24 hrs which is not feasible. Anyone know of any opportunities?
