I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

No regrets here! I was a community nurse in a small town for a long time and a school nurse and I loved both positions. Now I work in assisted living and I have no regrets, the slower pace is perfect for me.
I had my heart set on ER/ICU in school. Ended up in a SNF/Rehab for practicum and enjoyed the environment so much I applied 3 days in. I’ve been here 3 years now and love it. I was promoted to charge nurse after a year and it’s been amazing.
During nursing school, I had an honest conversation with one of my professors and she told me that I most likely wouldn't feel fulfilled or like I was providing my best level of care, which would have discouraged me and burnt me out quicker if I would in a hospital setting. After school, I started as a Pediatric Home Care Nurse and then stumbled into a School Nurse role and LOVE IT. Not only do I love the job and kids, but the schedule is a crazy perk.
I too work as a school nurse and love it. This upcoming year will be my 6th year. I started out in a SNF/long term then got pregnant with my son and knew if I wanted to slow down and watch him grow, I would have to change it up. Best decision I ever made.
