I have heard only the negatives about distance learning. Am I the only one that thinks there are positives? I know it’s a change but I have noticed that some of my students are benefiting in some ways.

Nope! I agree with you. I see major academic growth. As well as executive function growth. These kids will come out with strong skills in areas they wouldn’t have otherwise gained.

I see many students also developed some social emotional skills like empathy, encouraging others and acknowledging other’s hard work. We do monthly assemblies and so many students recognized their peers for how helpful and encouraging some of them are to each other.

One positive: The idea of a flipped classroom has been bouncing around for a while, but we didn’t really have the resources or the time to develop online lessons that students could use to learn before class. Now that I’ve spent almost a year developing lessons, I think I’ll assign parts of them as homework next year, and use class time for collaborative work.

I am one of a handful of full time online teachers. I am struggling! I would love to hear the positives and how you are achieving those great results. The rest of our school went remote after Thanksgiving and will co to use until mid January. I’ve talked with my team and one of my struggles is never having been face to face with this class. I can’t change that, but I am willing to change anything else. What are your grade levels and schedules, if you don’t mind sharing.

I see lots of things I will continue to use when this is done and somethings I can’t wait to see go! Most importantly I see my kids being more resilient and trying to find answers rather than waiting for me to give it to them.

My principal this week went through the list of kids full time online and marveled at those who were more successful online than in person. Sadly a large percentage though do not have the necessary support (parental or self-motivational) to succeed at the MS level compared to the HS kids.

My students are those who opted for 100% online. While initially due to COVID, I have seen reasons for staying online change. The bullied and non-social are finding success. Those families who lives don’t work with an 8-3 schedule are finding success. Those families with multiple parent situations to include geographic dispersement are having an easier time. Those motivated kids who work faster are finding success. Yes, aside from seeing friends regularly and the challenges of athletics, some kids don’t want to come back.

Is it good for everybody? No. But I had a kid ask today if the online option will be offered next year. Our school funding is linked to enrollment, so it would be worth it to consider that option for our clientele, if for no other reason than to keep the money that comes with them. If they want online, they will flock to whoever is offering.

I have the negative side. Students diappeared an extreme amount of failures no socialization and with special ed extremely difficult to properly teach

Pros:
- astounding financial benefits, great healthcare

Cons:

- too many cultists
- closed culture with extremely compartmentalized information, working on a small piece of the puzzle, with reduced ability to demonstrate true value, unless already high up.
- collaboration across teams is made unusually difficult and doesn’t seem encouraged.
- not remote friendly -- making everyone go back

Hey guys, I have the first short 15-minutes call with a product guy from Hugging Face today wherein he is likely going to take a guess at what roles I could be suitable for. I have been working for a year and am doubtful if I’m mature enough for the role. Help lol

For any of you real estate investors, what tools or sources did you learn from when getting started. Can’t find a mentor currently so want to find some highly recommended books or videos. If focused on the tri-state area (NY, NJ, Long Island mainly) that would be even better. My hope is to buy and rent out a apartment while also owning a house and house hacking that by renting part of it out. Trying to understand all the steps, traps, and how to find if it’s a good investment.

Would love a thread of different districts that offer a virtual academy. I’m looking for a change, preferably outside California. My district currently offers a virtual academy where your pay is on the same scale as in person teachers. So I’m not looking for companies that offer a virtual education, where they pay you minimum wage. Thank you!
